Pushing Riviera Nayarit Ahead

The Riviera Nayarit is seeking to regain international tourism, after a difficult 2009, and it spent just over 25 million pesos (between the Council of the Mexico Tourism Board and private investment in the destination) in promoting the Extravaganza Boating, held from 18 February until 20 March.

Among the various activities included, is the Nextel Cup Regatta Mexico Bicentennial, which was considered as one of the largest sailing competitions at international level this year.

Public relations officer of the Convention and Visitors Bureau of the Riviera, Richard Zarkin, said representatives of the federal government came months earlier with the intention of supporting the activity and include it as part of the celebrations of 2010.

The economic impact is estimated to leave the contest is over 50 million dollars, because foreign sailors like to travel accompanied.

"In the recent edition of Vallarta Race, one of the activities under the cover of Extravaganza, two thousand 500 registered participants, which was surprising as they estimated there would 600," said Zarkin.
